Device Overview

Name/Version: Ferine Synthesizer 2.2
Author: disconnector
Description: Ferine is a fairly extensive rework of the microbruto synthesizer by modlfo: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2276/microbruto

June 27, 2015 - Solved the buffer-filling-up issue.

June 25, 2015 - This device has been updated to solve the issue with internal patch routing affecting multiple devices.

Ferine is a monophonic, dual oscillator synthesizer, based on the architecture of the Mini/Microbrute synthesizers.

Each oscillator contains a saw, square, and triangle wave. The saw is now more closely modeled after the minibrute, with detune and rate adjustments. The square, pulsewave adjustment, and the triangle has a "metalizer" adjustment. There is now a single sub oscillator, and noise adjustment.

Pitch glide/portamento has been added, and the pitch envelope can be assigned positively or negatively. At full strength, the envelope will travel one octave.

The envelope section has seen some updates - Legato, Retrigger, and Last-Note triggering are available. The setting applies to both envelopes. The envelope/gate triggering has been removed in favor of this. The synth is also responds to velocity as well.

The LFO section is completely new. A number of waveforms are available to select from, the LFO can be rate or tempo synced (right now, Live has to be running to sync to clock - I'll see what I can do about this), phase adjustments, and smooth & jitter modulations can be applied. There was some sloppy note-taking on my behalf when I did this - I believe some of the routings/setup of this came from one of Robert Henke's early LFO devices. So, kudos to him and everyone else in the M4L community for doing some of that heavy lifting.

The mod matrix, as it existed, no longer exists. Pitch or filter can be modulated by the second envelope, and that's it. The utility (and effect) of assigning the saw, pulsewidth, or metalizer settings to it were minimal.

Pitch, pulsewidth, and the filter can be modulated by the LFO. I removed the saw modulation, as the sawtooth oscillator saw some significant changes. It essentially has it's own LFO (two, really) internally. Modulation for the metalizer effect was removed, mainly due to the fact that it didn't sound good when modulated. There's a fairly drastic change that occurs midway through the adjustment. I may update it to more closely reflect the minibrute.

So, there you have it. Enjoy, and thanks for all the downloads thus far.

This is pretty amazing. One of the best synths on here!

Hey. There's a bit of a bug when using more than one of these devices in a Live set. In particular the sends that trigger the envelopes trigger ALL instances, so you'd need to call them [send ---whatever#0] etc for it to work properly.

I don't know if that needs to happen with the send~ instances too?
cheers.

Oh, and it also appears to be filling up the undo buffer in Live. I forget what causes that.

ah, thanks! I'll check these out and get a fix in soon.

I'm impressed too, very nice quality and low CPU load. Thanks a lot for sharing this awesome piece of work.

Great news - the buffer issue has been solved. It was a number box I'd left in the project that got updated on every key press. Thankfully, I didn't have to change anything to fix it.

@Anivia - thanks!

Next update will include mod wheel implementation, and some improved routing for Push and other controllers.

Hi! Powerful synth. :)
The only thing that bothers me is some controls can't be mapped to midi controller.

Genius stuff... As a MB owner this is real damn close. Great work sir.

I didn't expect much. I thought yet another among many.
Boy oh boy, what a pleasant surprise. This thing is closest to the hardware you can get. You can feel the raw powerful sound of analog circuits. I've tested pretty much all popular analog emulations and Ferine is the most impressive in its niche. U-He Diva is not even close.
Respect.

Does this device have pitch bend from midi/pitch wheel? I understand there is pitch envelope and pitch LFO within the device, but I can't get it to respond to pitch bend from a keyboard wheel. Am I missing something?
