Device Overview

Name/Version: Drum Muse 1.21
Author: LaserbulbSound
Description: Drum Muse is a MIDI drum sequencer that uses an atypical counting mechanism allowing it to move through the steps of its sequences in unusual ways. It features six sequencer tracks, each with individual length, rate, and loop settings ideal for making long, evolving, poly-rhythmic patterns.

Each track uses a preliminary counting loop to step through its sequence in variable increments forward, backward, or back and forth. This loop can then be set to "jump" forward a number of steps after a selectable number of repetitions.

Version 1.1- Fixed inconsistent syncing with Live's Transport, freezing tracks works as well now.

Version 1.2-
- Added "Dice" buttons for each track to randomize the step grid.

- Added "Randomize" and "Reset" buttons on the Velocity tab of each track to randomize velocity sliders independent of step grid.

- New "Link" button in swing section so that the swing amount for all six tracks can be adjusted simultaneously.

Version 1.21- Fixed bug where the Dice icon for Drum 6 step grid was randomizing drum 5's steps.

Features:

- Six velocity capable sequence lanes.

-Each track has independent randomize buttons for the step grid and velocity sliders.

- Per-track pattern/loop length and rate settings

- Solo and mutes for each track

- Individual and entire pattern quantized reset buttons

-"Auto Reset" to force all six sequencers back to step 1 after a selectable number of bars

-Individual swing amounts for all six tracks that can be scaled globally.

-Midi transpose mode allows midi input to transpose all six tracks for use as a melodic sequencer

-Midi thru mode allows clip or controller midi to be merged with the Drum Muse output

-20 recallable preset patterns per instance

-All features, other than step grid and preset buttons, automatable and midi mappable. (Hoping to make the grid and presets mappable in future versions)

Thanks to Gregory Taylor and his book "Step by Step - Adventures in Sequencing with Max/MSP." I used one of his lessons as a starting point for this device.

Fixes in Version 1.1

- More consistent syncing with Live's session. v1.0 would sometimes get off by a 16th note when firing clips. This is now fixed.

- Freezing tracks works as expected now

Hi! I can't see pattern and velocity grids in version 1.1. It didn't happen with version 1. Could you fix it please? Thanks!

Got the same problems, no grid and velocity, also, the extension button is missing, I think you'd forgot to freeze the device.

Oh, Ok. Sorry about that. I will open it up now and see if I can get it fixed!

I'm hoping I just needed to freeze the device and save again. Try downloading again and let me know if it works.

Thanks!

Perfect! Now it works. Thank you very much for this awesome device!

absolutely love the device for flexible live jams!!! Thank you so much! Are you planning on including a randomize button per lane? That would make it just perfect =)

I certainly could add a randomize button for each track. I'll try to find some time to add it!

New in Version 1.2-
- Added "Dice" buttons to randomize the step grid.

- Added "Randomize" and "Reset" buttons on the Velocity tab of each track to randomize velocity sliders independent of step grid.

- New "Link" button is swing section so that the swing amount for all six tracks can be adjusted simultaneously.

Hi, the dice randomiser for drum 6 isn't functioning properly. It randomises drum 5 sequencer lane. Fix please.

Thanks

Hmm. Thanks for letting me know! I will take a look at it tonight.

Version 1.21 now available:

Fixed bug where the "Dice" icon for randomizing Drum 6's step grid was accidentally targeting Drum 5's steps.

This is awesome! Only problem I'm having with it is the QNT Reset function - it doesn't always work right away, sometimes delaying on the first beat. Loving this, though! Wish there was a copy/paste function and a "fill every 4,2,1 beat button as well. Love this!
