Overview

Name | Version: Charlynator 1.2
Author: CharlyBeck
Device Type: Audio Effect
Description: This is the ultimative Slicing tool which will surely fuck up your cpu ;-)

It takes an audio signal and routes it through 32 indiviual controllable ADSHR volume envolopes and a global filter section which let's the cutoff to be controlled by the envelopes which are triggered by the built in step sequencer. You can choose length and region to be looped.

The global Push control lets you open up the gates globally and the global length control let's you globally adjust the length of the slices. There is also a global velocity control.

It supports the APC40 as a step sequencer but you can still use your apc40 as you're used to it by pressing the shift button which will exit the Charlynator's step sequencer mode. When you reenter the track with the Charlynator it switches the APC to charlynator mode again.

You can also use many charlynators in different tracks.

I really hope the apc mode is still working as some live version crashed using the device and i could not retest it now.

Let me know if there are any problems.

Oh... I've even written a manual:

Charlynator v1.2 Manual

What is the Charlynator ?
-------------------------
The charlynator is a Max4Live Audio device with an integrated step sequencer for use with the Akai APC40 Midi Controller.

Each step in the sequencer can trigger a adshr-envelope (attack-decay-sustain-hold-release) curve which is used to slice the audio signal routed through the device. The envolope controls the volume of the audio material and additionally a filter effect can be controlled by the envelope.

How to use the Charlynator?
---------------------------
Add a charlynator device to an audio track in Ableton Live. While the Charlynator device is selected the behaviour of the apc40 changes to control the Charlynator device. As soon as another device is selected the charlynator device disables it's APC40 Support automatically and you can use your apc40 the same way as without charlynator device.

Note that you should at least place one device on each track (for example the Utility device) in order to make the disabling work. If you do not have a device on the track which gets selected the charlynator will keep control of the apc unless another device is selected.

Features:
---------
Step Envelope Section:
The knobs in this section control one of the 32 envelopes assigned to each step of the step sequencer.

Step Envelope Section: Number Knob:
This knob allows you to select one of the 32 envelopes to be edited with the other knobs of this section. This number is automatically set when toggling a step with the apc40.

Step Envelope Section: Velocity Knob:
This knob controls the maximum amount of the current envelope. While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this parameter can be controlled with the APC40'S Track 1 Knob.

Step Envelope Section: Attack knob:
This knob controls the attack time of the current envelope. While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this parameter can be controlled with the APC40'S Track 2 Knob.

Step Envelope Section: Decay knob:
This knob controls the decay time of the current envelope. While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this parameter can be controlled with the APC40'S Track 3 Knob.

Step Envelope Section: Sustain knob:
This knob controls the sustain level of the current envelope. While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this parameter can be controlled with the APC40'S Track 4 Knob.

Step Envelope Section: Hold knob:
This knob controls the hold time of the current envelope. While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this parameter can be controlled with the APC40'S Track 5 Knob.

Step Envelope Section: Release knob:
This knob controls the release time of the current envelope. While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this parameter can be controlled with the APC40'S Track 6 Knob.

Loop section
--------------
This section allows you to control the loop settings for the step sequencer.

Loop section: Range 01-08:
This knob sets the range to step 01 to 08.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's scene 1 button.

Loop section: Range 09-16:
This knob sets the range to step 09 to 16.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's scene 2 button.

Loop section: Range 17-24:
This knob sets the range to step 17 to 24.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's scene 3 button.

Loop section: Range 25-32:
This knob sets the range to step 25 to 32.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's scene 4 button.

Loop section: Length Button:
These knobs set the length of the step sequencer loop.

Global section
--------------
This section controls behaviours applied to all of the 32 envelopes of the step sequencer.

Global section: Velocity knob:
This knob sets a global factor to the velocity.
At the minimum level all envelopes are effectively disabled by setting all velocities to 0.
At the maximum position all envelopes are set the full amount of the velocity set in the envelope.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's device 1 knob.

Global section: Pushing knob:
This knob modifies all values of all adshr envelopes.
At the minimum level all values of the envelopes are set to minimum.
At the center level all values of the envelopes use their individual amounts.
At the maximum level all values of all envelopes are set to maximum.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's device 2 knob.

Global section: Filter offset knob:
This knob modifies the basic offset for the filter's cutoff frequency.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's device 5 knob.

Global section: Filter range knob:
This knob modifies the amount in which the incoming signal increases the filter cutoff frequency.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's device 6 knob.

Global section: Filter q knob:
This knob modifies the amount the resonance of the filter.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's device 7 knob.

Global section: Filter dry/wet knob:
This knob modifies the amount the filtered signal and the dry signal are mixed.
While the charlynator is connected to the Apc40 this knob can be triggered with the APC40's device 8 knob.

Is it mandatory to use the apc40 ?
Or does it also work with push or internal sequencing options ?

Long time has passed xD
