Device Overview

Name/Version: 16 Scales 1.1
Author: Illiac
Description: This is a MIDI scale preset bank with 16 scale types that, unlike Live's MIDI scale effect, will play scale degrees without repeating notes. It defaults to MIDI note number 0 (C-2) and covers the full 128 note range. This patch also has controls for key and octave.

If you would like to add more scales, enter patching mode, select the live.tab object, hit "command/ control i" and edit the "Range/ Enum" field with other scale names. Use spaces between names and parenthesis for namings with 2, or more words. You'll also need to edit the coll list.

To edit the coll list, while in edit mode, hold down command/ control, click "Write", then name the file. Now open this file in a text editor and add the scale intervals numerically. They should look like this:

0, 0 0 2 4 5 7 9 11 12 14 16 17 19 21 23 24 26;
1, 0 0 2 3 5 7 8 10 12 14 15 17 19 20 22 24 26;
2, 0 0 2 3 5 7 9 10 12 14 15 17 19 21 22 24 26;

etc.

To load your list, simply click "Read".

Cheers,

Brandon

thanks, really useful for tenori on

Love this Device... Use it in nearly every project.
Is there any way to have it use the white keys on a keyboard only?... a feature I found useful in Komplete Kontrol

Been using this for years now. I just noticed for some reason the Major Pentatonic scale is actually Minor Pentatonic. Maybe its just a glitch?

Also sometimes when I load a session the preset goes back to default.

Any thoughts in updating the device??

@margmoz Search for "The Poser" on here. Its exactly what youre looking for.

Hey Curtfield. I will definitely look into both of those and update the device shortly. Glad you're getting use out of it.

The concept is great but there are definitely a few bugs.

1. It transposes the incoming root note up from a C to a D note.
2. Certain scales jump octave way up
3. The lowest octave is about 4 octaves to high (not truly C-2)

Any fixes would be awesome!

It?s been quite some time since it was created and likely due for a tune up. What versions of Live and Max are you in? Also, what?s your OS?

I am running Live v10.1.9 and Max v8.1.2 on Windows 10.

I was able to patch in an easy fix but I've never used Max editor before now. The patch I created goes right before the beginning of your device and right after the "midin" - all it does is decrease the mid note by 3 octaves (36 semitones).

Also, the "Major Pentatonic" and "Minor Pentatonic" scales need to have their labels switched with each other. I wish I was not such a newbie with Max but I can't figure out how to fix the labels for the scales.

I'm sorry for the newbie question, but when I Ctrl+Click to edit the coll list, the file that I save contains no text when I load it in Notepad/Wordpad. Am I missing something obvious, perhaps?

Thank you!
