jbmssolar | Solar Energy Specialist, Educator & Sound Designer
Based in Pakistan, jbmssolar sits at a rare and exciting crossroads — where renewable energy technology meets music production and sound design. We are a solar energy company with a passion for making clean energy concepts accessible, engaging, and experiential through the power of audio and creative tools built for Ableton Live.
Who We Are
jbmssolar is a Pakistan-based solar energy brand operating at jbmssolar.pk, dedicated to the design, installation, and education of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. Over the years, we have worked with residential clients, commercial properties, schools, and industrial sites — helping them transition to cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy solutions. Our expertise spans solar panel selection, system sizing, inverter integration, battery storage, and grid-tie configurations across a wide range of environments and energy demands.
But we don't stop at hardware. We believe that energy education is just as important as energy installation. Understanding how solar power works — how a panel converts sunlight into electricity, how irradiance fluctuates across a day, how a battery charges and discharges — is fundamental to building a more energy-aware generation. That belief is what brought us here, to the world of Max for Live and Ableton Live, where data becomes sound and science becomes something you can hear.
Why Music Technology?
Sound is one of the most powerful tools for communication and learning. When you hear something, you feel it — and when you feel it, you remember it. We started exploring audio-visual tools as a way to make solar data more tangible for our clients and students. Instead of showing a graph of a solar yield curve, what if you could hear the energy rising in the morning and tapering off at dusk? Instead of reading a table of irradiance values, what if those values shaped a living, breathing soundscape that responded in real time?
That question led us to Max for Live — the most flexible and powerful environment for building custom instruments and devices inside Ableton Live. With Max, we found a platform where our deep knowledge of solar energy systems could be expressed in an entirely new way: as interactive, data-driven instruments that educate, inspire, and engage audiences who might never have considered the science of solar power before.
What We Build
Our devices are designed with a clear educational and experiential purpose. Each tool we create is rooted in real solar energy concepts — photovoltaic generation, battery state of charge, grid export events, panel degradation, seasonal irradiance variation, and more. We translate these technical phenomena into sonic and visual parameters that respond dynamically to energy data, whether simulated or live.
Our flagship device, SolarViz, is a Solar Energy Monitor and Visualizer built for Ableton Live 12. It maps solar panel output — including watts generated, voltage levels, and irradiance readings — to pitch, timbre, density, and rhythm in real time. As the sun rises and generation climbs, the device responds with brighter tones and richer harmonic layers. As clouds pass or generation dips, the sound becomes sparse and textural. The result is an immersive sonic representation of a solar day — something that can be used in classrooms, science fairs, renewable energy exhibitions, and live audio installations alike.
Beyond SolarViz, we are actively developing a growing library of devices that explore different aspects of solar energy and sustainable technology through sound design. These include tools for simulating off-grid battery systems, visualizing grid-tie export events, and generating generative ambient music driven by real-time weather and irradiance data feeds.
Who Our Devices Are For
Our devices are built for a wide and diverse audience. Science and technology educators looking for creative, engaging ways to teach renewable energy concepts will find our tools immediately useful — whether in a secondary school classroom, a university engineering workshop, or a public science centre. The combination of visual feedback, real-time data mapping, and musical output creates a multi-sensory learning experience that traditional teaching materials simply cannot replicate.
Sound designers and musicians interested in data-driven composition will find our devices offer a genuinely novel source of inspiration. Solar energy data has a natural rhythm — the gentle arc of a sunny day, the sudden dip of a cloud passing, the sharp cutoff of sunset — and that rhythm translates beautifully into musical structure and texture. Our tools give artists a meaningful and purposeful dataset to work with, grounded in something real and important.
Installation artists and experience designers working on sustainability-themed projects will also find strong value in our devices. Whether you are building an interactive exhibit about climate change, a sound installation for a green energy conference, or an ambient soundscape for an eco-conscious brand, our tools provide an authentic and technically grounded sonic palette to draw from.
Finally, solar energy professionals and enthusiasts who also happen to use Ableton Live will find our devices a fascinating way to engage with the data they work with every day — hearing their systems perform, not just seeing numbers on a screen.
Our Philosophy
We believe that the energy transition is not just a technical challenge — it is a cultural one. People need to understand, care about, and connect with renewable energy on a deeper level if we are to build a truly sustainable future. Music and sound are universal languages that cross barriers of education, age, and background. By bringing solar energy into the world of creative technology and music production, we hope to open new conversations, spark curiosity, and make clean energy something that people feel genuinely excited about.
Every device we release is free to use. We are committed to open, accessible tools that anyone — student, teacher, artist, or engineer — can download, learn from, and build upon. Solar energy belongs to everyone, and so do the tools we create to celebrate it.
