Description: | I created this device while experimenting with SWAM woodwind instruments. I wanted to be able to trigger notes with varying intonations and timbres, mimicking alternate fingerings in contemporary techniques. That’s when I came up with the idea of using the pitch bend in an interesting way… Basically, what this device does is to create a keyswitch on your keyboard which is used to trigger an “alternate fingering” of the currently played note. It does so by triggering an alternate note close to the currently played one and by modulating the pitch bend value so that the resulted pitch returns to the original note, either perfectly tuned or altered (depending on your settings). By quickly toggling the keyswitch on and off you can therefore create a pretty convincing bisbigliando effect...at least with the SWAM Woods instruments! It might be possible to create interesting results with other instruments too, but generally it’s best suited for instruments which are highly playable and which pitch bend alters the timbre and volume of the instrument, not simply bending the frequency like in samplers or classical synthesizers. In order to get this to work, you need to configure a few settings, such as to enter your instrument’s range and PB range. Otherwise, the pitch won’t be aligned properly. Other settings are explained in more details in the Info View. |
