Device Type: Audio Effect
Description: data.train is a sampler mangler of sorts that can be used as an audio effect or instrument (works with dropped samples or live audio input). It centers around the modulation of sample playback and FX through a grid of math operators. Each playback and FX parameter has its own modulation source/value and each frame that value changes based on its selected math operator. By changing the operators in a chain of events and the source of their right-hand operand, you can create complex to harmonic oscillations that can be evolving over time or repeating rhythms. This device is great for many uses, especially for rhythmic effects, glitchy/chaotic/stuttering sounds, ambient/generative soundscapes, pretty effects, or adding a bit of weirdness to your sound.

Sick device! It's a bit like having a morphagene and a turing machine and even more than that. I like it a lot.
Superb piece of work! Once you get the hang of things it becomes so easy to create great complex pieces out of even the most basic sample. Easily my favourite M4L device this year and possibly ever. Big thanks! :)

If you're looking for new ideas, I'd absolutely love to see a version of the .data section that's freely mappable like an LFO. So instead of the values being passed through the the .play section and used to modulate the settings there, just have a "Map" button for each of the columns. That way, the user could apply these awesome mathematical rhythms to whatever parameter in Ableton they want! I'd pay good money for that too! :D
Microsound compositions anyone? This is a must have then.
