Device Overview

Name/Version: ASYM RandomWithRetrigger 0.6
Author: asymmetricalfaces
Description: Repeatable randomness! With this device you can generate a random S&H-style LFO and retrigger the same random sequence again and again - either by automating/mapping the "Retrigger" button, or by using the built-in automatic retriggering section (with "auto" button ON).

You can type in a seed or hit the (?) button to quickly roll a new number. Both the "S&H rate" (RNG query frequency) and the retrigger rate can be either free time or beat synced.

The output rate of the LFO is automatically set by the S&H rate and the retrigger in order to save on CPU cycles - this means that if you want to use the Jitter and Smooth functions, you'll have to unlock the output rate and set it to something low. I've added an unlabelled toggle switch next to the Jitter/Smooth knobs to unlock this, so that you can manually set the output rate at the bottom of the device to suit (it will default to 10ms upon enabling this button).

I built this device because I couldn't find a random S&H LFO with a useful retrigger function, so I made my own. This is based on the "Max API AMap1.amxd" device included in the "M4L Building Tools" pack, and as such includes all the standard useful controls for refining the range, curve and compression of the generated control value in the centre panel, with the usual mapping section on the right hand side. Share and enjoy.

Update 0.5: the manual retrigger wasn't working immedately when clicked because it wasn't updating the output rate. Fixed.

Update 0.6: Tidied up the UI a bit.
