Overview

Name | Version: MIDImftLABELSfloat 0.01
Author: synthesizerwriter
Device Type: MIDI Effect
Description: MIDImftLABELSfloat provides a floating window that displays Bank Title and individual Labels (text) for each rotary control on the DJ Tech Tools MIDI Fighter Twister MIDI Controller. Yep - just text labels so that you know what each rotary control is mapped to... There is Bank Select detection and unmapped rotary controls are highlighted in the non-floating part in the Track Strip in Live, but the bank detection is not perfect because Live rechannelises everything MIDI to channel 1, and the Midi Fighter Twister sends different controllers on different MIDI channels...

You need to save the Live set to store the labels. MIDI is passed through the device with no changes. Note that Mapped controllers are not available in MaxForLive, so the highlighting only works for unmapped rotary controls.

I created this because I spend lots of time mapping parameters to the rotary controls on the MIDI Fighter Twister, and then when I come back to that Live set, I can't remember what the rotary controls are mapped to! Having another floating window with notes about what they do is very useful to me, and may be to you as well!

Cheers and stay safe in these interesting times!

Hey Friend,
"Apart from the Bank select tracking and the rotary control decoding, the MIDImftLABELSfloat plug-in doesn't do anything"
I'm finding this to be true. H
How do I change the colours?
To set the colours LOCALLY in the plug-in, you use the little grey number next to the coloured rounded box under each almost-square box (with the user-editable text inside!). Select it and use the up/down cursor keys to change the colour, or drag it up and down with the mouse (as you can do with all Ableton values...). What I do is set them to more or less the same colours as on the Twister itself, and this also serves as a useful indicator of which rotary controls are active. The mapping of colours to numbers is not obvious, and although I'm sure there is a simple algorithm that drives it, I haven't been able to find out what it is, so this version gives you the default mapping... Sorry.

As for it not doing anything, then it does store the text for each of the rotary controls, something which neither Ableton Live nor the MIDI Fighter Utility2 can do. Are you reporting that it is losing the text?
Hi, the device works fine on 11.25.

Have you encountered an elegant solution to the 'label' problem of the MFT ever since?

Your device is great but I wish there was some more sexy way. :D

Here's a DIY solution. Cutting out those holes in the paper seems like it will cost me a lot of pain though. :D
