Device Overview

Name/Version: SynPlantSeed 1.0
Author: opticon93
Description: Hi, This is my first posting. It is a Synplant DNA "Randomizer". Place it in front of your Synplant.

I put Randomizer in quotes because the strength of the randomization (Randomness) can be controlled, so it is not completely random. I usually set it between 25-50.

The randomization is also controlled by the Wheel Scaling. If the Wheel Scaling is set to 0% then no randomization occurs.

When Rests is set to 0, every notein triggers a randomization (theoretically). When Rests is set to 100, no randomization occurs. If Rests is set to 30, then 30% of the incoming notes do NOT trigger a randomization. I usually set this somewhere between 60 and 75.

Enjoy

This is a profoundly nuanced, wonderful device. Thank you!

I literally spent about 20 minutes exploring it with just with a single, repeated 1/8th note going into the device, and could have just left it at that. It's nice to know that even replanting a seed in Synplant can bore such musical results without even adding to the strain of the playback engine.

Thank you!!! I'm glad you like it. I've wanted something like this for years but have only recently acquired the wherewithal to figure something out. Back in 2008, they promised to make the dna automatable, but it hasn't happened. I gave up hope years ago.

Hi, cool device. To bring some movement into the synplant sound while it's playing. I think xanadu tried something to automate the Genes. Have to try that device again. I think he did a dirty hack with mouse movement automation. used your device here together with random seeds: https://youtu.be/UrDDUtvpbBg

Awesome video. I'm glad you like it. I tried that Xanadu device many times long ago (and more recently) but could never get it to work. I looked under the hood and it was very confusing. It uses the vst~ device and then tries to load the Synplant as a vst into the max patch. But even then, I couldn't see how the gene values were transmitted to the Synplant. Also, it uses Java, yuck.

Tested it, it's opening the synplant by itself to know the position of the UI. I have a cool mouse automation object that could replace the java part of xanadu's approach, but it is still not something you would use while producing (you can't use the mouse while automation is running). You could use a dedicated computer for synplant and then use it like an outboard gear. (don't think anyone would do nowadays).

cheers
O.

Cool, it would be great if you could post it. I've been thinking of ways that might make it more useful (without needing to do the crazy configuration setup) but I would want one without the Java.

Let me know
