Overview
Name | Version: | OnOff Emulation 0.02 |
Author: | synthesizerwriter |
Device Type: | Instrument |
Description: | Actually this is an 'Instrument' device (it generates sound) AND an 'Audio' device (it processes sound). It is effectively a custom synthesizer that attempts to emulate the results of turning an audio circuit on or off. So there are two processing sections that dynamically change the cut-off frequency or the clipping level of audio processing, plus three sections that add in some enveloped noise, impulsive 'crackles' and mains hum. I've never turned the power off to just a VST, so I'm not sure what would happen, but I've removed the power from audio hardware many times, both deliberately and by accident, so I have some first hand knowledge of the sort of things that can happen. When I was much younger, I had a tape recorder with valve-based electronics that used to whistle whilst it warmed up and cooled down, and I've had synths that did much the same, but without the benefit of vacuum tubes. I've never seen much discussion of this topic, and can't recall seeing any software that tries to do this type of simulation, but this doesn't mean that there aren't millions of keen explorers of this topic - it just means that I haven't met them yet. There is, as usual, more information about how to use this device, on my blog. |
