Description: | Editor for the Yamaha MU10 XG tone generator. This was a little project I did as an experiment with my first foray into programming Max for live. The Yamaha MU10 is quite an old tone generator, but something I had kicking around at home. I couldn't find any editors for this device which work in Ableton, so I decided to build one myself. The editor is designed to work with multiple instances of itself in Ableton, so you can run multiple editors across different channels to control different sounds (mulititmbral) within the MU10. If you are doing this make sure each of your midi outputs are mapped to different MIDI channel feeding into the MU10. Best to use MIDI channel 10 for drum parts as this is the XG default. It will allow you to adjust each of the drums independently of each other. The editor is designed to work with the default boot up configurations of the MU10. I did this as a Ableton doesn't easily support sysex messages. In any case the main purpose of the editor was to get easy access to the various sound patches, which the editor will allow you to do. Use the external instrument device to send MIDI to the MU10, and if you are using multiple channels, only return the audio on one of them. If anyone finds it useful then let me know. I will then make time to right up some instructions. Additionally if you have any other XG tone modules in this range, such as the MU80 or MU90 then it is an easy job to edit the synth patch names in the selection menus. Again drop me a line if you need help for this. Enjoy. |

Hi Pip
This is great. I'm trying to edit it to work with my QY70. I can get it to work by editing the text for the instrument drop down and the Bank numbers text box using the inspector. I know the bank numbers are correct as they have be a number lower than the one in my list book etc
Anyway, I've only edited the drums for now as there are 20 all together on the QY to test it and it works while in MAX for live but I get a e.g. 'col. refer: analog kit 2 is not a col' error. And it won't let me save my changes.
What am I doing wrong or is there another box to edit somewhere?

Ok, I've sorted the Col issue as I found where they were stored for drums and added them. Now my only problem is, is that it lets me edit both instrument list and program bank list, it all works, but when I change to another instrument it resets my lists. How do I sort this as it doesn't let me save them?
