| Description: | Max for Live Device for Live Arrangement Looping, Clip Recording/Launching and combining Session View and Arrangement View during Live Performances Features: 🔪 - Use automation lanes in Arrangement View to create predefined clip slot actions - Select a track and a clip slot for each of the 4 presets - Select between different Auto Arm options that react to the device's state - Choose between 4 (Post-)Automation Modes aka what happens when the Main Toggle is turned off again: 1. Transition from Rec to Play (for immediate live looping) 2. Transition from Play to Stop (for launching an already existing clip) 3. Transition from Rec to Stop (in order to pre-record a clip for later launching -> automate the 4 modes to do so) 4. Transition from Play to Delete (in case you want to free up the space of an already existing clip after playing it) In order for the device to work properly, put it on a separate midi track. If you want your automation to control the clips immediately without delay (which most probably you want), turn off Ableton's global quantization. Bonus: Also included is a simplified version of the device with only one preset: The Clip Loop Butter Knife! 🧈 Why does this device exist? When arranging a live looping performance you usually run into a few problems. You need a method to trigger clips exactly when you need them, e.g. with virtual midi (IAC driver on Mac) mapped to the clip slots. The downside of this method is that the mapping can become tedious pretty quickly and you need to send a midi message for track arm, clip launch, clip stop etc. separately. This leads to distraction from the actual arrangement and a loss of overview. The Clip Loop Swiss Knife tries to solve this problem by letting you automate the two values of the device's launch toggle according to the selected (Post-)Automation Mode. Now you can automate Midi or Audio Session Clip recording/playback/stopping/deleting in a similar fashion to the automation of Ableton's build in Audio Looper Device - without creating multiple midi clips for rec/play/stop/delete of a single loop as you would with the virtual midi bus method.
