| Description: | Sends Manager is a Max for Live device designed to simplify per-track send control using a single MIDI controller. Originally designed for the Akai APC40 mkII as it has 8 continuous encoders. I found no way to use my APC40 mkII to use the same encoders per track, so I designed this Max4Live device to do it. It has a built in memory of the Send levels per track, so when you switch tracks, each send level is saved then recalled when you re-select that track. The device provides dedicated controls for up to 8 sends on the currently selected track. Hardware MIDI is mapped once to the device controls and never needs to be re-mapped. When you change track selection in Ableton Live, the same physical knobs automatically control the sends to your return tracks. Each send control is dynamically labeled using the name of its corresponding Return track, making it easy to see exactly where audio is being sent at all times. Rename your Return tracks and the device reflects those names. This is really designed for any MIDI device with continuous encoders, preferably with an LED ring so you know where the last setting was. Once you map the MIDI encoders to the Sends Manager dials, you no longer need to look at your Ableton Live screen to see where you left the send levels. Controller compatibility: Sends Manager is optimized for endless encoders (relative controls), preferably with an LED ring. The last send setting will be recalled and the LED ring will show where it was. With endless encoders, switching tracks stays smooth because the knobs adjust sends without value jumps. Absolute knobs (standard pots) can work, but will definitely jump when switching tracks unless you use Ableton’s MIDI Takeover Mode settings (Pickup or Value Scaling) for your controller. I haven’t tested that though. Some compatible MIDI controllers this will work with, that have I think all have continuous (endless) encoders: Akai APC40 mkII (8 endless dials; Ableton-focused). Novation Launch Control XL 3 (24 endless encoders). Intech Studio Grid Series 3 DJ TechTools MIDI Fighter Twister (16 endless encoders, LED feedback). Faderfox EC4 (16 gridless push encoders, OLED feedback). OXI Instruments E16 (16 endless encoders with LED rings; newer option). Behringer BCF2000 (legacy, but has high-resolution encoders with LED rings). Novation Impulse (older keyboard line, but includes endless encoders). |
