Description: | Distortion is an amplitude-based audio effect that exponentiates the input signal to create its distortion. This distorted signal is then shaped by an equalizer using low and high controls and a set of mid-range parameters. Distortion parameters contain exponential gain distortion and negative signal wavefolding. INPUT buffers the input level and uses a 16kHz lowpass filter. DIST sets the distortion level applied to the input signal. This parameter adds odd harmonics. FOLD sets the amplitude level of the input signal's negative value. This parameter adds even harmonics. OUTPUT buffers the output level and gain-stages the TONE parameter. Equalizer parameters contain low- and high-frequency filters and two crisscrossing shelf filters to create a mid-frequency tone setting applied to the distorted signal. FREQ sets the frequency centers between the shelf filters. WIDTH sets the distance between their frequency centers. TONE sets their gain measured in decibels. Using the filter display, adjust the filter position on the x-axis with FREQ and the y-axis with TONE as well as distance factor with WIDTH. LOW/HIGH apply gain to a 72Hz high-shelf filter and a 7234Hz low-shelf filter, respectively, both measured in decibels. In addition, there are fixed position filters with a 40Hz highpass and a 16kHz lowpass. |
