Device Overview

Name/Version: InstaComposer Wrapper 1.0
Author: soaria
Description: This device lets you work around Live's limitations on (well, complete lack of) MIDI channels if you wanted to output multiple channels of MIDI data from a single device. As the name implies, I wrote this to be able to play with WA Prod's InstaComposer, but it should work for whatever VST up to 5 channels.

You will also need a MIDI receiver device that accepts the standard-ish "M4L.MidiBus-%i" messages. In theory you can find those here, but their site is down right now... look for "Max MIDI Receive".

Known issues: preset data isn't saved.

Really excellent idea for Live.

Tried with Rapid Composer and max midi receiver. Unfortunately all I get at the note receiver is a very rapid stream of note on messages (99) regardless of the midi channel pair I select.

Any ideas, Id really like to get this one to work.

Could you explain how to use this properly? It offers me all my plugins and if i route each bus in the plugin to different instruments and lay each out in a midi track is that how?

Actually got it working...it's fabulous! Chose Instacomposer in this device One Midi Receiver plus an Instrument per up to 16 Midi tracks and then you assign voices in each one based on Midi track.

For anyone wondering, it works. i've always liked insta and this device enables me to use it as intended. thanks!

I started from gspot's suggestion and kept at it until i got 1 instachord instance sending midi to three separate instruments. good job everyone!

MIDI Receive took longer to get a copy than I would've expected.

Here's where I got it:

Works well. My only ask would be to extend it to support a minimum of 6 tracks since that's what Instacomposer 2 has, but ideally to a breathable 16, perhaps for the use of Scenes in IC2.

Still, this is very easy to use. Greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone, for some reason it hasn't been notifying me about comments. Anyway, I'm going to release a 16 channel version, soon, that will also be able to save presets like a normal M4L device. I'm also hoping to put up a little tutorial on how to use it.

The new one is out:

It's now called Multi-MIDI Wrapper.
