Device Type: | MIDI Effect |
Description: | This device gives you a big floating window showing the play position of the currently playing clips in the first 7 tracks in your set. (or 7 tracks that you specify) When I'm on stage, I find myself squinting at session view trying to watch the little loop status circles for each currently playing clip. When the longest clip I have playing ends, it's usually time to play a different clip or scene. Some clips loop over and over in a scene of course, but the longest playing clip in a scene is usually the full length of the scene for me. I got tired of bending over squinting to see this visual reference, so I made this Max for Live device that gives you a big floating window showing the current play position of whatever clip is playing in your choice of 7 tracks. With this device, I find i no longer have to bend over and squint at the screen on stage. I can jump around and have fun and at a glance, look at my laptop screen and see when the current scene is going to end and when to be ready to fire the next. I only use 7 tracks of clips in my live show, plus a bunch of tracks hosting things I play live so there is only 7 clips supported in this device. But with a little tweaking you could easily add support for more. As creator of maxforlive.com I often do lectures on Max for Live and every time I show this device, many people ask me for it. So here you go! 1. Add the device to any MIDI track 2. Select which tracks you want to monitor. If you don't it will default to tracks 1 - 7 which should be fine for most people's live shows. 3. Hit float if you don't already see the floating window. 4. Play some clips and see it shows you their status. Enjoy. Version 1.1: Added "Refresh" feature. Hit this button whenever you add new tracks, or delete tracks, or rename tracks to update the device. |

Could this be used in several instances in one Live Set to effectively double the amount of tracks monitored?
