Name | Version: Ottawa - The Auto Wah 1.0
Author: philknock
Device Type: Audio Effect
Description: Ottawa is a filter whose cutoff point is controlled by the amplitude of the incoming signal. I'm sure it is also a lovely city.

To hear a demonstration of this effect, listen to

The Amplitude following here is accomplished by taking the absolute value of the input (summed to mono) so that the values range from 0 to 1. Logarithmic smoothening is applied based on the Attack and Release controls to create a smooth amplitude envelope that is displayed in the lower left. Experimentation with the Attack and Release controls will show exactly how they are behaving. Read more about envelope following here:

This smooth value ranging from 0 to 1 is then multiplied by the Depth control, and added to the Cutoff control to affect the position of the filters for the respective left and right channels.

Note that the left and right channels remain in stereo as they pass through the device. Their combination is just used to generate a single envelope that is applied to both filter paths. The choice of respective envelopes may come in a future update, but for now it operates on a single filter cutoff modulating signal.

Lastly, the filtered left and right channels are fed through a peak limiter, so nobody clips like a total silly goose.

** USING THE DEVICE **
Essentially, the Cutoff controls the initial filter position, the Depth controls the direction and breadth of the filter movement, and the Q controls the sharpness of the filter.

Various choices of filters are available, with the default lowpass being the quintisential "Auto Wah" effect. The Cutoff starts at the minimum, and the Gain pushes that value up to get that classic sound.

Now, you can have a plug and play stereo filter envelope to throw on anything!

Have fun!

Fantastic device!
Hey, I love this device!
One problem I have with it though is when I have it on a track and have my settings dialed in, if I save the project and then re-open it later not all the settings will have saved correctly. So I end up having to re-set the wah settings every time Ict.go to work on a projet
This happened to me in Live 10 and Live 11. Any advice?
Thanks!
