| Description: | boring yet useful device for generative art installations or live performances where you need ableton to automatically start playing samplers, instrument racks and or the transport, right when the project is opened and loaded up. yeah im sure this one has been done and posted here a thousand times but i was too lazy to do searches for it :*) for art/audio installations where the laptop might be in a gallery/museum/etc and you might not be around to turn it on in the morning or reboot if something gets wonky (i.e. you are relying on a curator or someone working in the space): you must setup your OS to have ableton auto load at startup (windows, this is a simple batch script, not sure about MacOS), set the OS so that everything can boot and run even with the screen closed (optional- depending on how hidden you need the computer to be), and set your installation project as the startup template within ableton. that way when you power on the laptop, everything loads up and this max for live device starts playing things automatically when the project is loaded. for live performances, i personally hate having a win tablet on stage anymore, so i setup the os in the same way as the installation description above, so i don't even have to view the screen, i can just press the power button, wait a few minutes, and start hearing sounds. im on windows, everything works as long as the midi controllers and audio interfaces are plugged in first. and when im done i can just hold the power button on the tablet for X seconds, and hard shut off the thing and go home. been performing this way for years now. just requires one to memorize what does what on the midi controllers. the buttons and number boxes on this device should be pretty self explanatory with the accompanying text. ive included hints so hover over a thing to find out more. there's an included demo .als project so you can experience this in action. |
