Device Overview

Name/Version: GMaudio TransD 1.0
Author: groovmekanik
Description: Transient Designers are a way of controlling the dynamics of a sound, independent of their peak volume level.

GMaudio TransD allows you to add punch or smack to Kicks and Snares, or get a really over compressed sound, without reaching for a compressor, adjusting a threshold and setting attack and release times. It can even be used creatively to gate signals or turn a recording into gritty, pops and clicks.

With very few controls, you can drastically (or subtly) shape the volume envelope of your sounds.

Attack: Controls the amount of transient information in the signal. At 0.0dB the signal is unaffected, positive settings increase the amount of transient information present in the signal while negative settings remove transient information.

Sustain: Controls the body of the sound. At 0.0dB the signal is unaffected but increasing this can create an over compressed sound while still retaining transients, lower settings can act like a gate and decrease the volume of the sound after the transient period.

Focus: This controls the frequency range that the device is using to control the volume envelope of your sound. This can drastically change the output and is best set to where there is both transient and sustain information in your signal. 250-500hz can be good for Kick Drums, while 300hz or 3khz can be good for Snares (depending on what part of the sound you want to control). While this is a wide-band filter, if a suitable frequency is not selected the device may have very little effect. The default is 1.25khz, which is good for complex signals but lower settings can get some very interesting results.

Output: This parameter allows you to adjust the output volume after changing the dynamics of the sound. This enables better gain staging as well as more transient information to be included in the signal before reaching clipping.

SoftClip: This button enables a soft clipping algorithm which will round off the peak level as it reaches -3dB and clip it at 0.0dB. This ensures no clipping occurs at the final output but can also be used to generate extra harmonics from transient information to increase apparent loudness.

All controls are Push ready and when loading the device on a track in its default state, your signal will be unaffected, ready for you to shape your sound to taste.

This device was created using gen~ in Max for precise timing and processing efficiency.

Shape your sounds, how YOU want! Without endlessly noodling with a compressor...
